Texas Governor, Greg Abbott, is looking for support to bring a constitutional convention together. This would be the first constitutional convention since the constitution was written in 1787. Some of the ratification's would include more power for states rights. His plans to add to the Constitution are 70 pages long. He hopes that he can get the rest of the party behind him because of the stigma of being the countries most conservative state. Some other amendments include:

  • Prohibiting Congress from activity that happens in one state
  • Allow a 2/3 state majority to override Supreme Court rulings
  • Allow a 2/3 state majority to override federal law
  • Have Congress balance its budget
The American Civil Liberties union has urged the Abbott to not mess with the Constitution. In the last 40 years 27 states have tried to call a constitutional convention, with no success. In order for the convention to be called at least 34 legislators need to approve.
